Mining That Gives Back
At Somika Commodities Limited, we believe that a mining company's success is measured not only by its financial performance, but by the positive, lasting impact it has on the people and environments it touches.
Community Development
Investing in Zambia's Future
Education Initiative
We fund school infrastructure, provide scholarships and supply learning materials to over 15 primary and secondary schools in mining communities across Zambia.
Healthcare Access
Three community health clinics built and funded near our major mine sites, providing free primary healthcare to over 8,000 community members annually.
Local Employment
Over 80% of our 500+ workforce are Zambian nationals. We prioritise hiring from local communities and provide skills training and career advancement opportunities.
Women in Mining
Active programme to recruit, train and promote women in both operational and professional roles, targeting 35% female representation in our workforce by 2026.
Environmental Stewardship
Responsible Mining, Healthier Planet
Somika Commodities Limited operates all sites with approved Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) under the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). Our environmental performance is independently audited annually.
We practice progressive rehabilitation of mined-out areas, returning land to productive use for local communities. Our processing plants operate closed-loop water recycling systems to minimise freshwater consumption and discharge.
Air quality monitoring stations are installed at all operational sites. We have committed to a 40% reduction in carbon intensity per tonne of mineral produced by 2030, through electrification of equipment and investment in solar energy at our facilities.
